About MindsOne:
Self Reliance. 'Cause if you're not going to, who will?
That's the state of mind, as well as the title, of MindsOne's newest LP. Slated for release through Soulspazm on September 21st, this highly conceptual project focuses on bringing the listener closer to their own reality and the world that surrounds us all. Ranging from satirical insights on financial woes to calls for greater social awareness and standing strong in the face of devastating loss, whether its the love of HipHop or the love of life, "Self Reliance" takes its hold.
The album features a variety of producers who each bring their own distinct sound to the project. Kev Brown, iLLmind, J. Rawls, Oddisee, and Dunc, along with in house instrumentalists Jamoculus and KON Sci offer musical backdrops for the vocalists to command. Emcees Tronic and KON Sci weave through the progression with clear intent, to demonstrate the strength of will necessary to embody Self Reliance. Guest appearances by John Robinson aka Lil Sci, Seez Mics of the Educated Consumers, Kev Brown, and rCyn bring their lyrical insights, while DJ Noumenon heads an arsenal of scratchwork assisted by Rob Swift, DJ Excess, J Smoke, DJ Spictakular, and John Beez.
Innovative lyrics, heart pounding instrumentals, and intense live shows are what MindsOne has been offering their listeners since 2002. Their music embodies the spirit of the culture and pays homage to those that have come before them. The crew, with members originally hailing from D.C., Albany, and Charlotte, formed in Wilmington, NC in 2002 when emcees Tronic and KON Sci met on public transit and later connected with DJ Noumenon. In 2006, the duo released an EP, "The Time Space Continuum", that was hailed as a breath of fresh air by the Southeastern Hip Hop community. The project propelled them into the NC Hip Hop scene and beyond. In 2008, MindsOne came fully armed with "Transitions," their first full lengh LP. It received rave reviews from various publications and led to a successful East Coast tour that ranged from NC to NY."Transitions" was recorded at Chung King Studios in NYC, known for its wealth in Hip Hop recording history. The album didn't merely aim to recapture the essence of classic HipHop artistry, but instead aimed to established its own identity through the uniquely progressive production and cutting-edge lyricism.
